Keepit.com’s software works on Windows based PCs and will detect by itself the paths or directories commonly used by Windows to store user files, which include the Documents and Settings, My Documents, My Pictures and My Received Files on Windows XP systems and the Users folder and subfolders on Vista systems. For an extra layer of security, a private key is used on the users’ end to decrypt files and access them online, this private key has to be kept in a secure place where it can easily be recovered in case it’s lost. If there’s no way for the user to recover his private key, Keepit.com’s staff will issue a replacement key after some offline checklists are applied, which can take up to 10 days, so it’s important you always keep a hard copy of your private key in a safe pace.
